As a photographer, there are some venues that are on the 'Venue Bucket List'; Oldwalls Gower had always been right amongst the top spot for me. However, regardless of where a venue is, it's always humbling to be given the responsibility of capturing the memories of the biggest day in a couple's lives.
Steph (the bride) and I actually met each other in Aberystwyth Uni back in 2008, and shared a mutual love of a night out! At that point I would have never imagined I would be the person responsible for photographing her Wedding 11 years later. 11Years?!? Wow.
Anyway, no pressure...
We kicked the morning off by heading to Steph's parents house, just outside of Merthyr Tydfil, where Steph, her mother and bridemaids were in full hair and make up. Whilst Dad was doing his best to 'stay out of the way' which we all know translates into 'I'm going for a big brekkie!'
From the house to the venue was a good hour and a quarter drive at the best of times, however, Steph had chosen to arrive in a vintage bread van. Yes, a bread van! I've seen wider tyres on a push bike! Pretty cool wedding transport all the same. Check out Champage Wedding Cars.
The weather was exactly the weather people have nightmares about on their Wedding day. But that did not dampen the happy couple's spirits at all. I was also under a bit of self-added pressure as I had jokingly guaranteed Steph's mother that there would be a gap in the weather for us to get the family shots outside. I must admit I had started to doubt myself as the rain stepped it up a notch, however, as 'promised' the clouds parted and the sun squeezed it's way through for a 30 minute window just after the ceremony. It was never in doubt!!
Martyn (the groom), and the guests awaited Steph's arrival in The Oak Room at Oldwalls, before she was walked down the aisle, wearing her stunning Justin Alexander gown, by her Father.
Evening entertainment was provided by indie rock wedding band 'Indienational' who kept the dance floor bouncing throughout! And I have to give a big shout out to Martyn for stepping up and suprising Steph with his own rendition of 'Teenage Dirtbag!'
The whole day was a massive success, and a pleasure to be part of amongst some fantastic people.
The team at Oldwalls are absolutely faultless and are incredible at what they do, and made us feel nothing but welcome. Looking forward to being back there, hopefully in slightly less damp conditions.
